Colin Tyler

Dr. Colin Tyler is Professor of Applied Ethics and Political Theory at the University of Hull, where he serves as Director of the Institute of Applied Ethics and the Centre for Idealism and the New Liberalism. A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and the Royal Historical Society, he has written extensively on British Idealism, the New Liberalism, the politics of the common good, and the history of social and political thought. His work explores how 19th and 20th century thinkers including T.H. Green, Bernard Bosanquet, and R.G. Collingwood shaped modern visions of social justice and collective responsibility. His most recent monograph, Common Good Politics: British Idealism and Social Justice in the Contemporary World (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017), brings these traditions into dialogue with contemporary debates on inequality, citizenship, and the state.
